The Park People works in partnership with residents and community partners throughout Denver's communities. Through special community-led and community-engaged greening projects, we support the visions residents have for their communities.
These projects can vary in scope and scale. For example, through the Cool Connected Westwood coalition, we have worked with residents, neighborhood organizers, and organizations including Westwood Unidos, Trust for Public Land, Groundwork Denver, and CU Boulder's Community Engagement, Design and Research Center in a neighborhood-scale greening effort tailored to the needs of Westwood residents. Through Greener, Healthier GES, The Park People partnered with neighborhood leaders and residents as well as The Nature Conservancy and GES Coalition to support the visions and plans of neighbors in three separate 'zonas verdes' (green zones) in the Globeville Elyria-Swansea neighborhoods.
The Park People's role in community-centered projects is as a partner and supporter of residents, serving varied functions including technical experts, resource connectors, community facilitators, and outreach and logistics coordinators.
Not only do these community greening projects result in hundreds of new trees and other plants being added and stewarded in low-canopy and underserved neighborhoods, these projects are also important opportunities for community building and important instances of community agency, leadership, and decision-making.
