Plant, learn, listen. The Park People's Community Greening Hub has not yet officially launched. Please stay tuned as we add more resources so that you and your community can do good, green work.

Community Forester

A five part workshop series that culminates with an earned leadership badge, qualifying graduates to plant and steward Denver’s urban forest. Some Community Foresters are neighborhood specific and work as guides alongside our Community Connectors and Community Climate Ambassadors.

Please click here to get a reminder email when our 2024 Community Forester registration opens up. Come learn about trees with us!

Community Connectors

Our Community Connectors are paid contractors with longstanding connections to low canopy neighborhoods, passionate about equity and greening, who want to become leaders in their community. CCs teach us what their neighborhood needs and we share resources to boost their project’s success.

Community Climate Ambassadors

Similar to Community Connectors, our Climate Ambassadors work in the Barnum and Valverde neighborhoods with residents, business owners, and community groups on climate resiliency and how their neighborhoods can work together to address extreme heat and water conservation.

Check out what Barnum and Valverde residents told us about heat and climate impacts on their families and neighborhood in these Summer 2023 Climate Survey Results.

Our Climate Ambassadors are taking their neighbors’ feedback and using it to shape water conservation and climate resilience projects in Barnum and Valverde for 2024. If you have questions or would like to be involved, please email our Climate Ambassadors at climate@theparkpeople.org

Community Tree Adoptions

Consider these mini Denver Digs. Together with our Community Connectors, we choose a variety of beautiful fruit bearing and shade trees for planting within designated neighborhoods. We then run adoption events together, connecting residents with trees.

You can read about our fall west Denver Community Tree Adoption event HEREAlthough the application window has closed for this fall, please get on our notification list for adopting trees next April through our city-wide Denver Digs Trees program.

Rainwater Harvesting

Get information on rainwater collection, including learning about Denver’s laws on collection, building and utilizing rain barrels, and how to make the most of your harvest. We also offer tree irrigation buckets for sites without irrigation lines or hoses.

Currently we are piloting projects in our west Denver communities. Tree irrigation buckets will be available at this fall’s Community Tree Distribution on October 14th, and available for delivery in west Denver after that.

Rain barrels will be available in 2024 – please click on the form to be notified when they will be available. We’ll also be providing them with free workshops on harvesting rainwater for watering our trees and plants.

Community Resources

Learn from The Park People and other Denver groups about tree benefits, turf reduction, Denver’s Resilience Campaign, and how to Be A Smart Ash.

FREE TREES from DENVER

  • Denver residents can apply for free street trees on the public right-of-way at Be a Smart Ash.

TURF REMOVAL

  • Resource Central is a front range non-profit that provides turf removal services and waterwise “Gardens in a Box”. Find out more about their services and pricing at https://resourcecentral.org/

TREE PLANTING

TREE CARE

PRUNING

  • If your tree is in the public right of way, or if its limbs are presenting a danger to the public right-of-way, you can contact Denver city’s Be a Smart Ash program to request tree removal or pruning.
  • For *modest pruning* of private property trees, you can refer to Denver’s tips on structural pruning, which helps trees grow strong and can prevent problems down the road.
  • For major pruning or removal of private property trees, we know this service is not cheap. Here is a list of city-certified tree care professionals. Can’t find this PDF of arborist companies in Denver at the moment – I’ll keep looking

TROUBLESHOOTING & TREE CARE GUIDANCE

City guidance, regulation, and enforcement for public right-of-way trees, and some issues for private property. Go to https://denvergov.org/files/assets/public/parks-and-recreation/documents/forestry-inspections-districts-map.pdf for contact information for YOUR city Forester.

NEIGHBORHOOD COMMUNITY FORESTERS

  • Depending on the need, The Park People may be able to match community members with trained Community Foresters knowledgeable in planting and caring for trees. Let us know what neighborhood you’re in, and we’ll see if we can get you connected with a local neighborhood Community Forester, for advice on tree planting, tree care, and your community’s forestry needs.
