The Purpose

Why Here And Now?

Barnum and Valverde, two low-canopy neighborhoods, are particularly vulnerable to extreme heat and water scarcity impacts.

A Solution

Our Community Climate Ambassadors have surveyed community members regarding resources that would help them conserve water and mitigate heat. Our CCAs use this resident input to plan local, resident-focused community education campaigns, and will soon be working on community tree plantings and home-based water conservation projects, like helping residents install rain barrels or gutter re-directs for irrigation, according to what residents say they need.

The Work

Check out what Barnum and Valverde residents told us about the impact of heat on their families and neighborhood in these Summer 2023 Climate Survey Results.

Our Climate Ambassadors are taking their neighbors’ feedback and using it to shape rainwater harvesting projects in Barnum and Valverde for 2024. If you have questions or would like to be involved, please email our Climate Ambassadors at climate@theparkpeople.org
