Volunteer Westwood Tree Planting

Help plant trees this fall for our Westwood Planting Project!

Fall is a great time to plant trees!

And we'd love your help in the Westwood neighborhood...

The Park People has joined an exciting partnership called Cool Connected Westwood that is organizing an autumn planting project. As a part of a larger green infrastructure initiative, we are thrilled to be offering Westwood residents free trees with flowering perennials planted at the base. Westwood is a vibrant, heavily Latino neighborhood. It is also one of Denver's lowest income, least treed neighborhoods. Residents typically face lots of barriers to planting trees (money, cars, etc), but we've got folks lined up to receive 200 trees in the upcoming weeks! The trees will provide well over $200,000 in community benefits - energy savings, carbon offsets, cleaner air and water, flood reduction, and enhanced property value. And that doesn't even include benefits like wildlife habitat, traffic calming, improved physical and mental health, safety, neighborhood activation and cohesion, and community pride. Yeah... trees rock.

There are two cool ways to join in:

1) Sign up to plant trees and flowers

  • Saturday mornings, Sept 23rd, Sept 30th, Oct 7th, Oct 14th - 8am or 9am to ~1pm. Volunteer planting crews will deliver and plant trees/flowers for Westwood residents. Each crew will have a leader and an assigned route in the neighborhood. Please sign up for as many days as you'd like! We need both experienced Crew Leaders and Crew Members (no experience required). Vehicles to transport trees are greatly appreciated!
