Who Can Join

Future Stewards of the Urban Forest!
Our workshops are open to anyone eager to learn about tree care and urban forestry. While all are welcome, priority is given to those who are committed to volunteering with The Park People and the Office of Denver's City Forester.
Many Community Foresters go on to:
- Lead volunteer tree planting events
- Support local urban forestry efforts
- Become paid Community Connectors, organizing efforts in their low-canopy neighborhoods
About the Trainings
Hands-On Workshops for People Who Love Trees
We offer multiple workshop series, and yes — you can (mostly) mix and match!
Skilled Volunteer Training
Our original 5-part series combines classroom and field-based learning. Learn the basics of urban forestry to help lead tree efforts across the city. Take 2 or more, become a Tree Steward. Take all 5 to earn the vest, badge, and Community Forester title. Each workshop is a half-day on a Saturday.
Start with “Trees 101” — it’s required before taking any other class.
More Learning Opportunities
- Tree Planting and Care
- Growing Green Leaders
- Rainwater Harvesting
- Continuing Education
Why It Matters
When residents lead, change happens. You bring the vision, the voice, the context. We layer in the expertise, the resources, the hands-on training. Top with a layer of dirt, sprinkle with mulch, and we have all the ingredients for successful urban forestry.
What You’ll Gain
Alongside practical tree care skills, you’ll get:
- A strong support network of like-minded tree lovers, as diverse as our urban forest
- The opportunity to lead and shape your neighborhood's tree canopy
- Deep knowledge of how to grow and maintain trees from seedling to shade
- Access to skilled volunteer opportunities working alongside the experts at The Park People and Denver's Office of the City Forester.
Workshops rotate to different Denver parks so you can explore new green spaces across the city.
